What does a Sales Development Representative do?
A Sales Development Representative (SDR) is responsible for generating new business opportunities through outbound prospecting. They use various communication channels to reach out to potential customers and qualify them as leads for the sales team.
SDRs work with the marketing team to ensure they generate high-quality leads that fit the ideal customer profile. They also build a pipeline of said leads that can be passed on to the sales team to close deals.
Sales Development Representative (SDR) Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation of sales strategies that draw in potential customers.
- Initiate contact with potential customers through cold-calling or responding to inquiries generated from advertising.
- Foster relationships with customers to identify their needs and qualify their interest in the service or product.
- Present product information to customers once their needs have been identified.
- Move qualified leads through the marketing funnel, connecting them to the sales team, arranging in-person meetings, emails, or phone calls, as appropriate.
- Follow up with potential customers who expressed interest but did not purchase any goods or services.
- Perform regular follow-up calls or emails and facilitate communication with new customers, to ensure their needs are being met.
- Collaborate with sales executives to ensure the company’s goals and targets are being met.
Sales Development Representative (SDR) Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or Associate’s degree (or higher) is preferred.
- At least two years of SDR, sales, or customer service experience is required.
- Exposure to coursework in sales techniques, marketing, and communication.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, teamwork, and customer service skills.
- Self-starter with solid time management skills.
- Exceptional cold-calling abilities.
- Must have an interest in talking with people all day long.
