What does an Accounting Supervisor do?
An Accounting Supervisor ensures that all financial and accounting operations within an accounting department run smoothly. They are involved in recruiting and training accounting staff, reviewing the work of junior staff, reconciling general ledger accounts, and assisting in preparing payroll accounts.
Accounting Supervisors also manage the general ledger, coordinate closings, and uphold controls. They focus on leadership, budget collaboration, financial analysis, cash management, tax compliance, and software implementation.
Accounting Supervisor Responsibilities
- Oversee financial statement preparation and accuracy.

Accounting Supervisor Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or relevant professional certification.
- At least six years of progressive accounting experience, with previous supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
- Familiarity with accounting software and ERP systems.
- Great attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
