What does a Director of Human Resources do?
A Director of HR is responsible for managing the overall operations of the Human Resources department, ensuring smooth operations while effectively meeting the company’s goals and objectives.
A Director of HR oversees the recruitment, training, retention, and development of employees, and ensures compliance with laws and regulations. Additionally, they develop and implement HR policies, manage employee benefits and compensation plans, and provide guidance to the senior leadership team regarding HR initiatives and workforce planning.
Director of Human Resources Responsibilities
- Work with the executive leadership team to develop HR policies and strategies that align with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
- Lead the HR team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Oversee recruitment and talent acquisition processes.
- Oversee employee relations efforts and optimize conflict resolution and performance management processes.
- Lead the employee benefits administration program, overseeing vendor selection and relationship management.
- Direct the employee compensation plan program, optimizing for employee satisfaction and retention while also meeting company revenue goals.
- Craft engaging Learning & Development programs to upskill the company’s workforce and provide growth opportunities.
- Oversee HRIS efforts, ensuring the team maintains compliance with rules and regulations.
- Stay abreast of legislation and regulatory changes that impact the HR department and company as a whole.
Director of Human Resources Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Human Resources or equivalent education and experience.
- At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience on an HR team.
- At least three years of experience in an HR Director role.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR Certification (or equivalent) required.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees of all levels and backgrounds.
- Expertise in all areas of HR.
- Working knowledge of HRIS programs and MS Office Suite.
