What does a HR Supervisor do?

An HR Supervisor oversees the Human Resources department of an organization. Their role involves managing the team in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding new employees, employee relations, benefits, compliance, training, HR strategy, and data management efforts.

An HR Supervisor wears many hats and functions as a liaison and advisor to senior leaders, the HR team, and employees.

HR Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Assist managers with staffing requirements and workforce planning.
  • Conduct final interviews and oversee reference and background checks.
  • Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Address employee relations concerns and initiatives, including performance management and investigations.
  • Counsel employees and managers on HR policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Lead employee growth initiatives, including trainings and workshops.
  • Oversee the benefits administration process, including vendor selection and relationship management.

HR Supervisor Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Human Resources or equivalent.
  • Relevant HR certifications (SPHR, SHRM-SCP).
  • At least eight years of experience in an HR role with progressive leadership experience.
  • A deep knowledge of HR programs and practices, including applicable State and Federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to present information to groups of all levels and backgrounds.
