What does a Legal Administrative Assistant do?

A Legal Administrative Assistant provides administrative support to lawyers, law firms, and legal teams. Legal Administrative Assistants perform a variety of important tasks including calendar management for Attorneys, client communication, attending and documenting meetings, and assisting with legal research or document preparation.

Legal Administrative Assistant Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support to Attorneys and legal teams.
  • Assist Attorneys in managing their calendars, keeping them abreast of updates and deadlines.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail service and answer phone calls.
  • Perform research and communicate findings to the legal team as needed.
  • Obtain relevant information from external organizations or agencies.
  • Assist in the creation, proofreading, and revision of documents.
  • Maintain and update company databases, tracking, and filing systems.
  • Assist with billing, invoicing, tracking billable hours, and expense reports.
  • Assist Attorneys with travel arrangements as needed.
  • Attend meetings or legal proceedings, taking notes as requested.
  • Assist the legal team with other special projects as they arise.

Legal Administrative Assistant Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of administrative experience working in a legal environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and highly detail oriented.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Interest in learning new software and managing company databases.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed to meet deadlines.
