What does a Legal Receptionist do?

A Legal Receptionist is a pivotal employee in a law firm as they are often the first point of contact for clients and visitors. Legal Receptionists answer and route incoming phone calls or emails, greet visitors, coordinate mail deliveries, schedule meetings, and oversee the organization of the lobby and meeting areas of the office.

Legal Receptionist Responsibilities

  • Welcome clients and visitors upon arrival.
  • Answer, screen, and route phone calls or emails in a professional manner.
  • Assist clients and visitors in locating meeting rooms, legal staff, or Attorneys.
  • Schedule and confirm appointments.
  • Direct the flow of mail, faxes, and deliveries to reach the intended recipients.
  • Order and replenish office supplies.
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of office equipment.
  • Assist with copying, scanning, faxing, emailing, note-taking, and travel bookings.
  • Prepare meeting facilities and arrange refreshments as requested.

Legal Receptionist Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of Receptionist experience in a corporate or legal environment.
  • Exposure to legal terminology and documentation.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, Legal Practice Management software, multifunction printer equipment, and enterprise-level phone systems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
