What does a Real Estate Attorney do?

A Real Estate Attorney specializes in matters relating to real property, including land, buildings, and other immovable assets. Real Estate attorneys provide expert guidance to clients involving real estate transactions, dispute resolutions, and land use and zoning matters.

Real Estate Attorneys are critical members of a Real Estate Developer’s team as they provide counsel involving real estate investment and development projects.

Real Estate Attorney Responsibilities

  • Assess legal risk in real estate transactions or contracts and advise accordingly.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations involving real estate transactions, land use, and zoning matters.
  • Draft and review legal real estate documents, including letters of intent, purchase agreements, leases, and closing documents to ensure favorable terms and legality.
  • Conduct due diligence involving property title, zoning restrictions, environmental matters, liens, easements, and advise of or mitigate risks accordingly.
  • Ensure titles are appropriately examined prior to the acquisition of assets.
  • Participate in dispute resolution as necessary, including mediation and litigation.
  • Advise clients regarding investment and development projects, including examining land use regulations, zoning ordinances, and planning concerns.

Real Estate Attorney Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree is required.
  • Member of the Washington State Bar Association.
  • At least five years of experience practicing real estate law in Washington State, preferably in King and surrounding Counties.
  • Proven track record of providing exceptional legal service to clients in a Law Firm or Corporate Legal team setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex real estate transactions and dispute resolutions from inception to completion.
  • Capable networker comfortable with public speaking.
  • Detail oriented and capable of meeting tight deadlines.
